Assisted Living Apartments (2002)

DESCRIPTION: A kit-of-parts apartment complex catering to the mobility of disabled residents.

CLIENT: none.

CONCEPT: The kit-of-parts system consists of post and beam heavy timber frame with plug-in infill elements. A special automobile dock allows a disabled resident in a wheel chair to roll right into specially-designed vans for maximum mobility.

DESIGN TEAM: Final design, structure, graphics, and presentation by A. Scott Howe, who also functioned as faculty advisor. Preliminary design ideas were contributed by students Mime Tan and Carol Fay Ty, with co-tutor Ray Zee in Hong Kong University Department of Architecture second year studio.

COST: None estimated.

STATUS: Only conceptual design steps were taken.
