Lifecycle Architecture Tool |
| PROJECT TITLE: Demonstration Design Tool for Lifecycle Management of Kit-of-parts Building Systems. INVESTIGATORS: A. Scott Howe (PI). FUNDING: US$1,600 funded by Kajima Corporation. PERIOD: Apr 2001 - July 2001. ABSTRACT: This research develops a demonstration prototype design tool software program for Internet-based lifecycle management of kit-of-parts building systems. The tool covers eight steps, idea, design, manufacture, construction, occupancy, remodel, demolition, and recycle of a building's lifecycle. The tool simulates each of the steps using Flash and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) models. Web-based bidding, system selection, manufacturing, facility management, etc. are simulated with animation, while other steps demonstrate alternative results depending on the user's choices. Of particular note, the "walkthru" function in the "Occupancy" stage generates unique VRML models of chosen kit-of-parts systems in organization schemes selected earlier in the "Design" stage. The graphic user interface of the design tool is based on the expert system program featured in THE PARTYHUT. The Lifecycle Architecture Tool demonstration was created as an interactive "software" exhibit shown in the Kajima expo booth DIGIOSK at the Japan Expo in Fukushima 2001: Utsukushima Futures Expo held 7 July - 30 September 2001 in Fukushima, Japan. Try out the simulated design tool as follows (note: repetitive soundtrack is included -- mute setting on PC is suggested -- Flash & VRML plugin required): |
