Qargo Kit-of-parts

PROJECT TITLE: Qargo Kit-of-parts Building System for Appletree Residence, Eugene, Oregon.

INVESTIGATORS: A. Scott Howe (PI).

FUNDING: US$14,800 funded by Plug-in Creations Architecture, LLC.

PERIOD: Sep 2003 - July 2005.

ABSTRACT: The Qargo system demonstrates a manufacturing approach to construction. Kit-of-parts components are manufactured in controlled factory environments, and shipped to the site. No raw materials are prepared at the site -- only assembly and disassembly of pre-prepared components. The Qargo kit-of-parts is based on the support-infill paradigm, where a standard post and beam structural system is fitted with plug-in infill panels and modules. Heavy timber columns and beams create a ten foot grid in x, y, and z directions. Premanufactured infill panels can be demounted and reconfigured according to need.
