TEPCO Expo Pavilion (1993)

DESCRIPTION: Approximately 1,700m2 (18,000sf) pavilion for the Ariake Tokyo Frontier Exposition.

CLIENT: Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).

CONCEPT: A sphere consisting of a double-walled space truss structure suspended away from the ground. All structural and mechanical members are completely integrated in an easy-to-assemble kit-of-parts. Interior spaces include domed theater, waiting areas, exhibit spaces, etcera. Energy generation towers are placed in a grid on the site and include windmills, hydroelectric generation, and solar panels which double as roofs for an exterior amphitheater / waiting area.

COST: Estimated 800 million yen.

DATE: Fall 1993.

STATUS: Since the Tokyo Frontier Exposition was cancelled, only conceptual design steps were taken for this project.
