DESCRIPTION: 11,715m2 (126,000sf) assembly hall / office / library facility to be located in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
CLIENT: (classified information) CONCEPT: Volumes of the three functions are arranged with the assembly hall in the basement, library on floors two through four, and offices on floors five through seven. The front of the building responds to the street with conventional curtain wall construction while the entire rear facade becomes a truss wall containing core elements: elevators, exterior stairways, restroom modules, and exposed mechanical equipment. Angular study nooks protrude through the truss wall on the library floors. DESIGN TEAM: Project architect: Tomohito Okudaira. Conceptual Design, Preliminary Mechanical & Preliminary Structure for this alternative: A. Scott Howe. Other Designers: Masahiro Kawamukai. COST: Estimated 5.3 billion yen. DATE: Winter 1992.
