Puget Sound Oasis (1988)

CONCEPT: An expandable system consisting of superstructure components and interfacing habitable modules. Superstructure is comprised of buoyancy tank towers and horizontal / diagonal tubular braces forming a rigid space frame. Additional components include windlass, electrical power generating windmills, tidemills, and utility cranes. Habitable modules which span between the superstructure towers include command module, galley module, dining module, retail shop module, submerged fuel modules, heliport, and mechanical module (contains desalination and sewage processing equipment).

SCHOOL: University of Utah fifth year design Master of Architecture course. Project was prepared for RIBA's international gas stop competition.

DATE: 1988.

DESCRIPTION: 1,050m2 (11,300sf) marine service station / retail shop / restaurant facility with 892m2 (9,600sf) of exterior deck space and roof gardens located in Puget Sound, Washington State.
